Rear-Admiral Charles Horatio McMorris Born: Died: Nickname: "Soc" from Socrates

Chief war planer of Kimmel's. Captain of Heavy Cruiser San Francisco during Battle of Cape Esperance, promoted to rank of Rear-Admiral in 1942, then ordered to take command of a cruiser force in the Aleutians. In that post, succesfully repulsed an attempt to reinforce Kiska by a Japanese convoy of superior strength, during Battle of Kommandorski Islands. Ordered by Admiral Nimitz to become his Chief of Staff when Vice-Admiral Towers resigned the job to become Nimitz's second-in-command. For his apparent wisdom and intelligence, McMorris got the nickname "Soc" derived from Socrates. No further info available.
